Gopuff Marketing Snapshot

Gopuff · marketing from the outside · 14 Oct 2026

Gopuff gets attention with famous names, but customers stay or leave over speed, fees and support

Gopuff's marketing is loud on celebrity product drops and quiet everywhere else. It has run no US Facebook or Instagram ads since mid-August. The longest running ads are ordinary creators selling a celebrity's product, not the celebrity. Customers love the speed and late-night service. App ratings have been sliding since a June app redesign.

Where they advertise

Google is live and the UK is busy, but US Facebook and Instagram have been dark since 13 August.

What the ads look like (Meta only)

The US sells speed, mostly with still images. The UK sells discounts. Neither leads with what customers say they love most.

What customers say

People choose Gopuff for speed and late nights. They leave over delays, support and billing, and ratings have been falling since June.

Why they choose it

  • Speed, by far
  • Open late (2–3am)
  • Things other apps won't bring: alcohol, vapes, cigarettes
  • $2 staples with FAM; EBT/SNAP accepted

Why they complain

  • Orders pushed back by hours
  • AI-only support, refunds refused
  • FAM billing, hard to cancel
  • Fees, markups, the $17.95 minimum

The June AI redesign is the clearest warning sign

In June 2026 Gopuff rebuilt its app around "Go", an AI shopping assistant it described as "co-developed with SpaceXAI and powered by Grok". The evidence that it hurt:

That the redesign caused the drop is our read. The timing and the reviews line up, but delivery, support and billing complaints were there before and after. The Instagram sample is capped, so the comment counts are a sample, not a census. Our read

Are the celebrities helping?

They get attention, but people talk about the star, not about Gopuff. What works is the celebrity's product sold by everyday creators.

Next to the competition (Meta only)

Gopuff leans on celebrities far more than the others: 34 of its 146 US ads feature a star or a star's product.

What seems to be working (Meta only)

In the US, creator videos selling a celebrity's product ran longest by far. In the UK, ads with and without a promo code last the same overall. Among ads live now, code ads have been up longer.

Brands keep paying for ads that make money and switch off ones that don't, so an ad left running for weeks is probably earning its keep. Our read Bars show the median days an ad stayed live, counted from Meta's own dates. Fact

All bars use the same scale. In the US, every creator ad is a video and most of Gopuff's own ads are stills, so it's who is in the ad that matters, not the format. Every ad is listed with its link on the ad library audit.

Four questions worth asking on the inside

  1. Why did US Facebook and Instagram stop on 13 August? Was the money moved to Google, TV or Instacart, or cut? And what happened to new customers afterwards?
  2. How is a celebrity drop judged? By buzz, or by sales of the product and repeat orders? The public evidence says creators selling the drop do more work than the star.
  3. Is marketing filling a leaky bucket? Ratings fell after June's redesign, and delivery, support and billing complaints are steady. Fixing those may be worth more than another campaign.
  4. Why not lead with what customers already love? Late night and things other apps can't deliver are the reasons people choose Gopuff, and no US ad we saw uses them.
